My story started in South Carolina, but I now live in Indiana.
I was the first Grandchild and my Grandmother was the oldest of 7. My favorite aunt was actually my great aunt, and she was the youngest. In 2010 I decided to work for A Place For Mom, as it was an opportunity to serve people who were facing difficult decisions. My own family has been through similar situations many times and we did not have such a resource available to us. It was an amazing opportunity so I took it.
I spent over Ten years striving to be an expert in the field of senior care. I covered 18 states during my time, and assisted in placement or support in an additional 14 states. In some of the states, I knew the regulations very well, and others there was no need. The same is true for Medicaid information and additional resources. One thing I learned, is that this information is available, however it is BURIED in the search engines because government and non profit agencies don’t pay the large marketing fees to get the premium listings.
I also served Four years as a military pay analyst and my Father is retired military. I began helping some of the VA Social Workers at a local Veteran’s hospital as they preferred to have someone with military service and experience to work with. I found that there were many people in the senior living industry with very limited or incorrect knowledge about Veteran’s programs and aimed to learn as much as possible, and share with my fellow Advisors that wanted to take the time to learn.
I left A Place For Mom last year, as the company had changed drastically in the past year and I found that we were no longer aligned in our mission and sense of purpose. I spent a VERY short time working with another “dot.com” selling a medical device to the public. As I started to research these products and channels to purchase, I realized the industry was quite confusing and the insurance companies didn’t help matters.
I wanted a place where I could give all of this information away.
I want a place where people know where to turn, who to buy from, who to trust, and what to expect before they click the mouse.
I wanted a place to collect and compile TEN YEAR’s worth of information, and a place to build additional information as well.
I also love to cook and my mother-in-law lives with us. She has a variety of health issues and follows a very strict diet. Learning to prepare meals for a special diet can be a challenge but nutrition and eating well is an invaluable tool in our toolbox for keeping our senior loved one’s healthy.
I hope to share information and resources with you that will help. I will have affiliate links in some of the blogs when discussing certain items or websites, but will not include any that are not reputable. It is my goal to to provide guidance and resources to help you make informed decisions.
